Duane Edward Zimmerman, 71, was received peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior at 4 p.m. on July 29th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief but difficult illness.
Duane was born January 14th, 1952, in Seymour to the late Norma (Dunn) Nowling and Joseph Zimmerman. On July 7th, 1971, he was united in marriage to Trudy (Clevenger) Zimmerman.
They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Tasha and Heather.
In 1988, Duane was baptized and received the gift of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Duane loved music and playing the drums. Starting at age 11, he played drums for 60 years in various bands and later in church praise teams. He was most known for being a founding member of The Crape Soul, a local band in the late 60s and early 70s that rose to popularity by playing many local dances and winning several competitions.
Duane worked for Silgan Plastics in Seymour for many years and retired.
More recently, Duane had devoted his time to The Point here in Seymour. He played drums and percussion in the praise and worship team and helped to build and set up facades and sets for the many different designs created by his close friend and Creative Arts Pastor Joel Burbrink. He loved working in the church and praising the Lord when playing music for the services.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy Zimmerman, and two daughters, Tasha (Douglas) Siefert of Deputy and Heather (Jon) Guffey of Seymour. He was a wonderful “Papaw” to his five Grandchildren, Josiah Rigsby, Gabriel Gerth, Jacob Guffey, Nick Siefert, and Saviere Guffey. He is also survived by a sister, Nadine (Zimmerman) Payne; a brother, Donnie Nowling; and a nephew, Chad Zimmerman, all of Seymour. Sister-in-law Bonnie (Clevenger) Dotts and her husband Jimmy also survive.
Services for Duane will be held at The Point in Seymour at 311 Meyers Street on Friday, August 4th, 2023, starting at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Jon Gibson officiating. The family will meet friends from 4 p.m. until the time of services at 5 p.m. at The Point.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that memorial donations be made to The Point’s Creative Arts department. Send to the address above or at gotothepoint.com/giving/
