Gary L. Root

July 30, 1952 - February 7, 2015

Mr. Gary L. Root, 62, passed away at 10:30 a.m., February 7, 2015 at his home with family by his side in Freetown, IN. .
Gary was born on July 30, 1952 in Seymour to the late Sarah (Neal) and Homer Root.
He graduated from Brownstown High School in 1970 and went on to earn an associates degree from Ivy Tech. Gary retired as an Electrical Mechanic for Valeo Sylvania in addition to being the Owner/Operator of Redbrush Tree Farm. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Gary’s greatest joy in life was his family and he was known for loving each and every soul to whom he was acquainted.
Gary married Roxanne Howard Root on March 6, 1982.
Gary is survived by his loving wife; two daughters, Shona Root and Shannon Root; two sons, Brandon (Rachel) Root and Bill Smith; two brothers, Bob (Margaret) Root and Ray (Sue) Root; three sisters, June (Joe) Miller, Jeanie Root and Lisa Dunn as well as a sister-in-law Anita Root.
Gary is preceded in death by his mother and father in addition to his brother Lonnie Root.

Funeral service will be held at Voss Chapel on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.with the Rev. John Dessender officiating.
Family and friends may call at Voss Funeral Service, Voss Chapel at 316 N. Chestnut St. on Wednesday, February 11 from 4-8 p.m. and on Thursday after 12 noon until the time of service.
Burial will follow at Gorbetts Chapel Cemetery.

The family asks that Memorials be designated to the American Cancer Society.

So sorry to all the root family for your loss. We all lost a great man . Gary was the kindest man, and was very passionate about his family. So sorry for your lose Gary was a wonderful man. Work with him at Sylvania and he work as Tech on the line with my son and they where very good friends. Gary will be missed by many but he he has gone home Gary and all of his family and friends will meet again. Gob be with all of the family

I have alot of great memories with my Dad. We had alot of fun fishing, boating, camping, gardening etc. I could write a book and not tell them all! The most important thing was our family get togethers, with, of course, tons of delicious food! Birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving and just visiting on any day were the best times for us, I think. We were together, happy and surrounded with lots of love! My Dad was a wonderful man, just like his Dad! He was kind, giving, patient, a hard worker, wonderful father, son, brother, husband, friend, etc. He never spoke bad of anyone. He is loved and missed by many! I LOVE AND MISS YOU WITH ALL MY HEART DAD!!!!!
