Gordon F. Ruddick, 88, of Reddington died Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Covered Bridge Health Campus.
Born September 16, 1927, he was the son of James W. and Mary E. Ruddick, both of whom preceded him in death. On July 15, 1948, at First Methodist Church in Seymour, he married Genevieve Nicholson, and she survives.
Gordon was a member of the United States Navy from 1944-1946 serving on the U.S. Salisbury Sound in the Pacific. He was a Shields High School graduate with the class of 1947 and was service manager at Ruddick’s Garage in Seymour for 38 years retiring in 1983.
He was a member of Central Christian Church where he served as chairman of the junior deacons for many years, the American Legion Post 89 and a life member of the VFW Post 1925, in Seymour.
Survivors include his children: Patrick (Cindy) Ruddick and Jane Ruddick; also two grandchildren: Susan (James) Carmer and Marc (Jody) Ruddick; and six great-grandchildren: Ryan Carmer, Morgan Carmer, Tanner Stearns, Rider Stearns, Zayne Ruddick and Alayna Ruddick. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard “Bud” Ruddick, two sisters, Jamesine Sweet and Jessie Hildreth, and a grandson, Timothy Michael Ruddick.
Funeral Service will be at Voss Chapel on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at 10:30 am with Rev. Jon Carlstrom and Rev. Bill Weaver officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Friends and family may gather at Voss Chapel on Monday, August 8, from 4 to 8 pm and again on Tuesday from 9:30 am until time of service.
Memorials may be given in his memory to Central Christian Church, Schneck Medical Center Hospice Services or Donor’s Choice.
