Homer Lawrence Treadway

September 7, 1930 - July 10, 2016

Mr. Homer Lawrence Treadway, 85 of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.

He was born September 7, 1930, in Medora, Indiana, the son of the late Homer and Mary (Brown) Treadway.

He married Helen Marie Hirtzel on May 15, 1948, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour, Indiana, and she survives.

Homer was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He worked at the Post Office for 30 years until his retirement and drove cars for Bob Poynter for 14 years. He was very involved with St. Ambrose where he was instrumental in getting the PTO started. He volunteered for several fundraising programs that helped support the church and school. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Knights of Columbus. He loved horse racing, hunting, fishing, gardening and mushroom hunting. He enjoyed square dancing and loved visiting Pigeon Forge. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, their children, Linda (Barry) Melloncamp, Laverne (Ron) Carr and Brad (Susan) Treadway; six grandchildren, Kristie (Ed) Farmer, Evan Melloncamp, Lauren (Andrew) Keller, Clayton Carr, AnDrew Treadway and Morgan (Andy) Simon; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Carson, Reece and Penelope; and a brother, Richard Treadway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Louise Overshiner and Edna Morley; and a brother, William Treadway.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Dan Staublin officiating assisted by Deacon Mike East. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Friends and family may gather at Voss Chapel on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and at St. Ambrose Catholic Church after 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday. A Rosary Service will be conducted at Voss Chapel on Tuesday at 2:45 p.m.

Memorial checks may be written to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or Lutheran Community Home.

Linda and Laaverne, I am so sorry for the loss of your father. I am traveling and unable to return. I always enjoyed talking with your dad. No one could ever find more or larger mushrooms than he could. Every year he found more than anyone else. He was a great guy and I am sure a fantastic father. One of the last one from the old post office crew of years ago. Just a great guy. Always smiling, always pleasant and always friendly.

LInda, Sharon told about your Dad passing , I love working with Him at the Post Office . He was always so happy and easy to talk to about any problems you might be having, I know he will be missed! I' m so thankful to have known him .
