Irene Frances Simmons, 88, passed away Friday night, November 18, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. She was a resident of North Vernon.

She was born September 21, 1934 in Jennings County to Victor and Ruth Hawk Maschino.  She married Harry J Simmons on September 18, 1954, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Four Corners, IN.  Survivors include her husband, J Simmons of North Vernon; nine children, Robert (Debra) Simmons of Hayden, Bonnie (Tom Pericak) Simmons of Old Fort, NC, Charlotte (Billy) Hendrix of Commiskey, Brenda (Lou) King of North Vernon, Sandra Stockelman of Hayden, Melinda (Steve) Schmidt of North Vernon, Lisa (Chris) Martin of Whitestown, Brad (Shannon) Simmons of Ovilla, TX, and Elizabeth (Chris) Kirchner of North Vernon; son-in-law, Bryan Shelley of Lebanon, IN; sister, Agnes Euler of Columbus, IN; 27 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Kay Shelley; and her son-in-law Michael Stockelman, six brothers and one sister.

Irene was a member of St .Joseph Catholic Church in Four Corners, where she was a past member of the Rosary Society.

She enjoyed traveling and gardening and being with family.

Irene was a faithful Catholic, a devoted farmer’s wife, and a mother and grandmother that women would aspire to be.

A Rosary service will take place at 4:30PM, Monday at Voss & Sons Funeral Service, with visitation from 5-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11AM, Tuesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1875 S. County Road 700 W. in Four Corners. She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
