Jack L. Hercamp entered eternal life on March 15, 2023 in Seymour IN surrounded by his family. Jack was born on September 4th 1951 in Seymour IN to Malcom (Mac) and Dorothy (Dot) (McKain) Hercamp. On September 27, 1981, Jack married Beatrice Acton in Waymansville, Indiana at St. Peters Lutheran Church.

Jack is survived by his wife Bea, and son Cody (Karra) Hercamp. Other survivors include, a brother James Hercamp of Indianapolis, and Sandra DeSpain of Greenwood. Jack also survived by brother in laws Allen (Bev) Acton, Bill (Debbie) Acton, Carol Johnson, and Brian (Shelley Rubio) Acton, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in-law Charles and Betty Acton, brother-in-law Jim Johnson, brother-in-law Robert DeSpain, and sister-in-law Brenda Hercamp.

Jack graduated from Seymour High School class of 1971. He served in the National Guard for 6 years. He was a past member of St. Peters Lutheran Church Waymansville, where he was confirmed, and an active member of Zion Lutheran Church Seymour, where he served as an usher, and on various boards. He was a member of Lutherans Men Chorus, played in the Lutheran Dartball league, and was an avid bowler in Seymour and currently bowled at the Columbus Bowling Center. Jack also served on the Hamilton Township Fire Protection District board.

Jack was employed with Harley Bag/Union Camp, Travomatic, and was instrumental in getting Cerrowire running in Crothersville. In 2017 Jack retired from NTN in Columbus.

Jack never met a stranger and was known by many. If he could make you smile his day was made. He enjoyed watching many sports that his son played, following Cody’s  graduation from high school, Jack continued to support his nieces and family friends in their youth sporting events. Jack loved cheering for his Indiana Hoosiers!

Visitation will be on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 3 pm until 8 pm at Voss and Sons Funeral Service and 9 am until time of the service at 10 am on Saturday March 18, 2023,  at Zion Lutheran Church in Seymour.  Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or School, Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department, or Donor’s Choice.

Some my best memories with Jack, was out at Camp Lake View for Boy Scouts. We would sit around drinking coffee and telling jokes and stories. This would be later after the boys went to their cabins to sleep. Then there was that one -time Jack was dared to go into the woman's restroom. He went in. I am going to miss Jack. Love Dave

Bea and Cody- My deepest sympathies to you both. Our families are very close and have been through many joys and sorrows together. Bea, you and Jack were like an extra set of grandparents for our girls and we always enjoyed when you visited us. Cody, could almost be a brother in law as close as you are to Megan and Matt. I'm going to miss Jack's quick wit, firm handshake, and genuine love of life. His love of the Lord and his strong faith were even more evident in his closing days. When visiting him in the hospital it was a wonderful display of those words from Philippians 4:7: "And the peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Jack was at peace with his situation and proudly proclaimed how blessed he was, and how confident he was that Heaven was his next destination. His heart and mind were focused on that promise from his savior in John 3:16. As we said our good byes, he looked me in the eye as he always does and told me "I'll see you in Heaven buddy," and gripped my hand with his signature firm handshake and sly grin. God bless your family as you grieve his loss, and celebrate his life, with full confidence that you too will see Jack again in Heaven!
