James Delando Brewer, age 83, of Columbus, Indiana died on Feb 27, 2024.
He was born in Sturgeon, KY on February 16, 1941, to Verlon and Martha Cleo Brewer.

Jim had a lifelong passion for learning and incorporated that into every facet of his life. He was an innovative leader and teacher. He was brave, inventive and a trusted patriot in his work and in his life.

In high school he excelled in his studies. After high school he joined the Navy for four years and then began his career with the US Government as a Civil Service employee. While employed he continued his education where he ultimately completed several degrees including bachelor’s, master’s and completed the coursework for his Doctorate.

Jim met the love of his life, Carol, in 1954 while attending Seymour Junior High School in Seymour, Indiana. He said he knew then that he would marry her! After graduating from Seymour High School, the two were married on August 22, 1959.
Jim and Carol couldn’t wait to start a family of their own, and their children meant the world to him. They include James Scott Brewer, Tim Brewer and Sherri (Brewer) Quintero.

Jim was passionate about his Civil Service career. He earned many awards during his working years, including the Eli T. Reich award which is the highest award that a Civilian can be awarded.

Everyone who knew Jim knew he was an avid collector. Over the years he had collected many items including guns, knives, fly fishing equipment, trains, cameras and pocket watches.

In addition to his collections, his hobbies included archery, shooting, building and reloading guns, gunsmithing and woodworking. He carved many beautiful pieces; he was truly an artisan.

He was a renaissance man whose only limitations were his time available to accomplish them to add another chapter in his life.

Jim’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, their children Scott (Mona) Brewer, Tim (Gina) Brewer and Sherri (Rick) Quintero, six grandchildren, Amber (Kyle) Ahlbrand, Brittany (Don) Fields, Daniel (Megan) Quintero, Tiffany (Tyler) Downing, Allison (Phil) Quintero-Auel, Max Brewer and eight great-grandchildren, Tinley Ahlbrand, Collier Culbreth, Conner Culbreth, Carter Culbreth, Trent Downing, Titus Downing, Tatum Downing and Willa Quintero; three sisters, Laverne Cantrell, Mary Countryman and Donna (Joe) Hackman.

James was preceded in death by his parents, the late Verlon and Cleo Brewer; two brothers, Verlon Brewer Jr and Charles Leighton Brewer.

The family will receive guests at Voss and Sons Funeral Service and Crematory in Seymour from 4-7pm on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, and the burial service will be at the Madison National Veteran’s cemetery on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 12:00 noon.
