It’s never easy to say goodbye to someone who has been a part of our lives. When that person is gone, there’s a hole; that’s what many of us feel.
Jeffery Louis Moffitt, 60, passed away on April 10, 2024, at his home in Seymour. He was born May 8, 1963 in Miami County in Florida, to the late John W. Moffitt and Ruth Ann Moore. His family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he attended high school at John Marshall High School and graduated in 1981. After graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Cindy Cottrell, in 1982.
Jeff enlisted in the United States Navy where he became a Navy Seabee. He and Cindy traveled overseas where they started their life together, welcoming their daughter Elizabeth in Italy in 1986. A few years later, while Jeff was working at Camp David for President George H. W. Bush, they welcomed their son Jonathan in Wellsboro, PA. They moved to many locations including Mississippi before coming home to Indiana.
Some knew Jeff more than others, but everyone who came to know him knew he had a one-of-a-kind personality. He enjoyed dressing to the nines and attending concerts, broadways shows, or even a nice dinner. After working at Camp David with high security responsibilities, he never stopped carrying himself with that “stand up straight” mentality. Even the code for his briefcase was 007. His love language was to show his love with gifts, and he was known for showering his loved ones with thoughtful gifts. He enjoyed woodworking in his garage and listening to music like Sammy Hager and Stevie Ray Vaughan loud throughout the entire house. He will be greatly missed for all his wonderful “quirky” sides.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Josh) Copeland and Jonathan Moffit; grandchildren, Mailey, Hayden, and Ryker; brother, Jim (Judy) Moffitt; sister, Jenni Moffitt; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Ruth, his father John, his brother Greg, and his wife Cindy.
Funeral services for Jeff will be Friday, April 19, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Voss and Sons Funeral Services, 316 N Chestnut Street, Seymour. Pastor Edward Cottrell Jr. of Hope United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Friday, April 19, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
