John F. Baker, age 84, of Seymour, IN, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown on, Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
John, beloved husband, father, son and friend, was born on November 3, 1939, in Bedford, IN to the late John F. Baker and Vera Frances (Rainey) Baker. He was a 1958 graduate of Shaswick High School in Bedford. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1962 to 1968. On November 3, 1990, John married the love of his life, Marsha F. Heagle Baker. John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marsha F. Baker, his children, Michael Baker, and his wife Gina, Christina Orner and Matthew Orner. John is preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark Baker, and brothers, Terry Baker and Larry Baker.
John was full of life and had a passion for golf, butchery and sports. He dedicated many afternoons to rounds of golf with friends and family. He opened a IGA grocery store along with his brother, Larry, in 1978, and spent many years there exploring his passion in the meat department. He was a avid IU fan and proudly showed his support in his everyday life. John was a member of the Fraternity of Freemasonry, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour, where he dedicated his life to serving God.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, at 1:00PM at Voss and Sons Funeral Service and Crematory. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 11:00AM until the time of service. Burial and military honors will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
