At Johnny’s memorial we heard of his sense of adventure. It reminded me of the time we were at the Waltz cabin on the lake. Johnny clung to me as I got up on the water skis. He choked me the entire time but it was well worth the adventure.

I have a few fond memories of Johnny, from attending church with he and his wife (my aunt), to us quizzing each other on States and Capitals to see if I still knew them, haha! He would even quiz my son. He really enjoyed children, and was very kind/patient with them. He always asked how they were doing in school, what they're learning, etc. He also loved God with all his heart and never hesitated to share His goodness despite his physical limitations, which could cause one's faith to stray - but not his. The last time I saw him was Christmas 2016, when he and Bessie lived in California. It was nice to catch up as if there hadn't been a lapse in time. When I got the news that Johnny passed, I was sad, but also happy because I knew he went with God, no longer with limitations, and completely free; we should all take comfort in that. I'm of the belief that the more people who go before you, the bigger the homecoming is when it's your time. Johnny, thank you for your kindness, and all the good you've done with a life that was so short. To the Walter/Brown family, I send love, prayers, hugs, and condolences as you all do your best to navigate this loss and the "new normal" that follows. God is with you always. -Angel

I'm sending lots of love to the Walter family. Johnny and I met in elementary school and I have many fond memories of him growing up together. He was always a great friend, so smart, and really funny. He always had a smile on his face and exuded positive energy. For someone who faced the physical challenges that he did, he never made it about himself. I always felt like he was more interested in what others were experiencing. He was a natural leader and wanted to bring people together. Thank you for being a big part of my childhood Johnny and for being such an inspiration for all of us.
The Tworek Family left a message on March 30, 2023:
Johnny was a gift to this world. I feel so blessed and grateful to have heard stories of his life and faith (and sneaky brother pranks.) Those positive stories have impacted me and how I choose to focus my efforts in this life. Heaven gained such a beautiful gift in Johnny and I know that gift will be so deeply missed this side of Heaven. I pray your families share all their favorite Johnny stories for many years to come and may the joy and kindness in which he carried himself be gained by all of his friends and family. Lots and lots of Love and hugs from Virginia! Katie, J.T., Marian, Bethany & Susie

Uncle Jeff Asher left a message on March 29, 2023:
From birth at Methodist Hospital, Johnny stole my heart. He was a very colicky baby and he would not surrender and close his eyes to nap. I was holding him and rocking while he screamed continuously in my ear! Yet I was able to fall asleep. Fond memories of taking him to holiday world the day Laura was born. When he was still able to walk, I drove into Seymour and passed him on his way to the Fife’s. He was swaggering back and forth struggling. I pulled the car over and just bawled. I enjoyed checking on him while he and Bessie lived in Indy. He would call and ask me to bring “scraps” meaning leftovers. I enjoyed eating with him and just being with him. I enjoyed him at Purdue and when they lived in Lafayette. I thoroughly enjoyed our spiritual discussions. Johnny impacted my life in so many ways! We will together again! I love you always and in all ways! Uncle Jeff

To the Walter Family, who I’ve always considered like a 2nd family, I can’t bring to express my condolences. Johnny was a special person to so many people and did so much for others. I am so happy he got a chance to meet my family and I was able to share with them some of the amazing stories from our childhood. Johnny was without a doubt someone who brought the best out of others and I can say truly was one of the best people I ever had the chance to know. I love you all and I will always cherish the amazing memories and am so thankful I got to be lucky enough to be a part of his life.

We are sorry words can not touch the physical pain in your hearts as you remember Johnny's life and grieve his passing. We hope his funeral and days ahead give you the freedom to suffer the fullness of grief and find rest in your weariness. We only knew Johnny through the things he accomplished on this earth and through the people who loved him. It seems despite hardship, discouragement and a failing body he managed to continue to love, to hope, to inspire, to live. It is a testament to your love and care for him. He was blessed to have you. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
