John R. Moore

John R. Moore, 81, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Lutheran Community Home. He had been ill for about three months.
Born Jan. 17, 1936, in Seymour, he was the son of Leonard “Skeets” and Ruth Wehmiller Moore. On Jan. 17, 1960, in Seymour, he married Donna Barringer, who survives.
John was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served two years in the U.S. Army and was a former owner of John Moore Insurance Agency.
John graduated from Seymour Shields High School in 1954. He lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track and played minor league baseball in the Kansas City Athletics organization. He was a member of Seymour Elks Lodge 462. He was a former elder and served on the Heritage Foundation at Immanuel.
John began his work career with Metropolitan Life Insurance in New Albany. He later founded John Moore Agency in 1975 and worked there until his retirement in 1998.
Other survivors besides his wife, include his children, David (Shannon) Moore, Craig (Linda) Moore and Andrew Moore; six grandchildren, Ashley (Nick) Kuklenski, Nicholas Moore, Natalie (Parker) Wiethoff, Chad (Madeleine) Moore, Amanda Moore and Jacob Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Brady Kuklenski and Riley Kuklenski.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Julie Moore.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, the Rev. Jimmy Rodriguez and the Rev. Philip Bloch officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Voss Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
