Mr. John Robert Hurless, 91, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11:56 p.m.
John was born in Hartley, Iowa, on February 2, 1924, the son of the late Leon Robert and Grace (Slick) Hurless.
On October 10, 1948, in Galien, Michigan, he married Thelma Marie Stickle.
Mr. Hurless was a member of the Central Christian Church of Seymour. He served in the United States Navy, during World War II from September 1943 to May 1946. He retired from the Department of the Army, Rock Island Arsenal, after 22 years of service. John had also been an employee of the FBI for 12 years. He was a member of the Seymour Evenings Lions Club and the NARFE- Chapter 944. He was a volunteer Master Gardener in Scott County, Iowa.
Mr. Hurless is survived by his wife of 67 years, Thelma, children John (Diane) Hurless, Jr., Kenneth (Christine) Hurless, Kay (Glen) Alden, Robert (Rebecca) Hurless, grandchildren Sara Hurless, Becky Yates, Matt Hurless, Ryan Hurless, Lisa Jaeger, Kassie Alden, Robbie Alden, Nick Hurless and great grandchildren Lauren, Henry, Ashton, Makenley and Sam .
He is preceded in death by his parents, a great grandsonWesley Jaeger, 2 sisters Virginia Uhland, and Ruth Ford, a brother; George Hurless
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. at Voss Chapel on Saturday, January 16, 2016.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, with full military graveside rites, conducted by the VFW Post #1925, American Legion Post # 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans all of Seymour.
Friends and family may gather at Voss Chapel on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday after 12:00 noon until time of service.
