Louis Rumph, Jr., 87 of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
He was born January 9, 1929, at Ratcliff Grove, Jackson County, Indiana, the son of the late Louis and Jennie Robertson Rumph.
He married Marylon Killion on June 3, 1951, at Central Christian Church, in Seymour, and she survives.
Louis was a member of Central Christian Church and a 53 year member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #146. He graduated from Brownstown High School in 1947. He served in the US Navy for a year. He worked at Brownstown Brickyard and Arvin’s before starting work at Cummins Engine Company where he worked for 31 years until he retired as a Supervisor in Fuel Systems in 1983. He then consulted for Cummins in Chicago and Juarez, Mexico for several years. He enjoyed farming, especially growing strawberries on 20 acres of his land. He loved going out to eat, traveling, fishing, bike riding, refurbishing furniture, and collecting antiques with his wife. He especially enjoyed watching his great-grandsons’ sporting events. He loved writing poetry. You knew you were very special to him if he wrote a poem for you. He especially loved giving his family poems he had written for their birthdays.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marylon, his two daughters, Rebecca Sue (Mike) Miller and Jennifer Lynn Rumph, two granddaughters, Sara Elizabeth (Bill) Bane and Jenna LeeAnn Miller, and three great-grandchildren, Lucas “Luke” Michael Bane, Jude Allen Bane, and Eleanor Elizabeth Bane.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Irvin Rumph, and three sisters, Effie Verble, Ruby Lucas, and Rettie Jane Mitchner.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Voss Chapel. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Friends and family may gather at Voss Chapel on Wednesday from 3 to 8 pm and Thursday after 12:00 Noon until time of service. A Masonic Service will be conducted by Jackson Lodge #146 at 7:00 pm on Wednesday.
