Marvin Harold ‘Pete’ Pearson, 91, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016, at The Covered Bridge Health Care Campus.
He was born December 7, 1924, in Kurtz, Indiana, the son of the late Roy and Mabel Clair (Mitchell) Pearson both of whom preceded him in death.
Mr. Pearson was a very proud and patriotic man for he received Two Purple Hearts while serving during WW II in the United States Army. After his time in the military he worked at Kroger for several years before owning and operating his own store, Pearson Grocery, in Seymour for many years. After, he worked for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, where he retired after several years of service. He then went to work at Schneck Medical Center and was a former Fire Chief of Redding Township. He was a member of the Masonic F&AM Lodge 146, American Legion Post 1925 and a life member of the Jackson County Pistol Club.
On December 7, 1946, he married Reva Mae Goen in Brownstown, Indiana.
Mr. Pearson is survived by his wife of 69 years, his daughter, Amber Jo (Rick) Prather, a brother Robert Eugene (Irma) Pearson, eight grandchildren: Gabriel, Justin, Jared, Casey, Amanda, Amy, Keith and Abbey; and 17 great-grandchildren: Victoria, Brianna, Leigha, Brie, Bristin, Kennedie, Chandler, Donovan, Dylan, Colton, Arianna, Mya, Emma, Ian, Nora, Ellie and Konner.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Roger Dale “Albie” Pearson, his sister, Thelma Pruitt, and six brothers: Challnor Leroy, William Lee Ray, J.C., Francis, Lawrence and Dorence Pearson.
Funeral Service will be Monday, October 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Voss Chapel with Rev. Bill Everhart officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Family and friends may gather at Voss Chapel on Monday after 12:00 pm until time of Service.
Memorial checks may be written to the American Legion Post 1925.
