Mary Margaret Mann Abel, 91 of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015, at home surrounded by her family.
Mary was born in Freetown, Indiana, on December 4, 1923, to the late James McNiece and Nevada Ann (Kerner) Mann.
She married Floyd Long Abel September 14, 1940, in North Vernon, Indiana.
Mary was a member of Freetown United Methodist Church. She was very active in a variety of charitable organizations in the community including Freetown Home Ec Club, Order of the Eastern Star, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the American Legion. Mary spent her entire life as a homemaker taking care of her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and being “Grammy” to all of her grandchildren. She was always quilting and taking care of her rose garden. Mary was also known for her love of cooking and baking and was always willing to share her recipes with anyone who wanted them.
Mary is survived by her children, Marian Abel (Chuck) Rochner, Willard Earl (Cathy) Abel, Margaret Ella (James) Hayes, and Marsha Jane (Fred) Waskom; ten grandchildren, Angie Rochner, Candice Stenftenagel, Dawn Lang, Cary Waskom, Ryan Watts, Jessica Wischmeier, Roy Watts, Sandra Roeser, Tyler Waskom, and Andrew Abel; 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a twin daughter, Maxine Abel; four brothers, Frank Mann, Orville Mann, Leroy Mann, and Earl Mann; and five sisters, Mildred Wineinger, Eleanor Cross, Esther Reed, Genieve Burrell, and Alma Russell.
Services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Voss Chapel with Rev. David Ison officiating.
Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel Wednesday from 4-8 pm and Thursday, after 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
