Melissa Gayle Huffman

Melissa Gayle Huffman, 53, of Seymour, passed away unexpectantly on April 25th, 2023. She was born on December 4th, 1969, in Toledo, Ohio, to Charles and Nella Hughes. Happily married in 1991 to Steve Huffman, both raised two beautiful children together. Melissa was a remarkable woman who will always be remembered for her kindness and selflessness.

Melissa was a dedicated nurse for 30+ years who devoted her life to caring for others. She spoke often about the joy and fulfillment she found in her work, and her passion for nursing was truly inspiring. Her compassion and generosity touched the lives of countless people, and she was beloved by many.

She was also a talented cook and enjoyed trying out new recipes to share with her loved ones. There was no greater joy that she would express than that of someone enjoying her home cooked meals.

She is survived by Steve Huffman, her son, Brian Huffman, her daughter, Michelle Huffman, her mother-in-law, Edna Huffman, her brothers, Jimmy Hughes and Chris Goins, her sister-in-law, Jeny Hughes, her brother-in-law, Eric Huffman, sister-in-law Penny Ross, as well as her nephews, Aiden, Aaron, Andrew, and Hunter, and her nieces, Ava and Emma. Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Charles Hughes, her mother, Nella Goins, her grandmother, Mattie Hughes, and her brother, David Hughes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Children’s Alliance, Childhelp, or Darkness to Light. These organizations are dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and neglect, and preventing child sexual abuse through education and awareness. She was also a supporter of Saint Jude’s hospital and enjoyed working with children.

Melissa will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
