Ms. Mary Jean “Jeannie” Banta Adair, 78, passed away on May 6, 2023, in Louisville, Kentucky after her battle with ALS. She was born August 6, 1944, to Dr. E.J. and Mary Dorothy Banta in Seymour, Indiana.
Jeannie attended Seymour High School and proceeded to complete an associate degree at Sullivan College in Louisville, Kentucky. She worked as a legal secretary for several years before she chose to raise her children full time. Jeannie also worked at Caesars Casino for the past 20 years. She enjoyed her work, but also enjoyed talking to anyone who would listen. Work for Jeannie provided long friendships and the ability to travel to far destinations. Her passion for travel was seen by all through gifts family and friends were able to benefit from receiving.
She reveled in her grandchildren and played an integral role in their lives by going on vacations, attending as many school and sport events as possible, and simply being the Nana they needed.
Her hobbies were traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and Christmas experiences. When one thinks of Christmas, one always immediately thinks of her. She was passionate to ensure all that she encountered felt warm and special during that time of the year.
Jeannie is reflected in both of her sons, Andrew Adair of Ferndale, Michigan and Eric Adair of Mount Washington, Kentucky, two grandchildren; Savannah and Zachary, her siblings; Martha Griffith, James Banta, and Edwin Banta, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass for Jeannie will be on June 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour, Indiana with the Rev. Daniel Staublin celebrant. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of mass at 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow Mass at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery in Seymour.
