Myrtle Imogene Mathews Barrett

May 15, 1941 - November 3, 2015

Mrs. Myrtle Imogene Mathews Barrett, 74 of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away at her daughter’s home in Freetown, Indiana, on November 3, 2015.

She was born May 15, 1941, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Oliver Brown Mathews, Sr., and Roxie Ferry Mathews.

She received a Technical Certificate in Nursing and worked as a Home Health Nurse for 25 years.

She is survived by her children, Michael Lynn Beavers, David Beavers, Teresa (Oddis) Freese, Albert Lee Barrett, and Myrtle Ellen Giancola; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Oliver Brown Mathews, Jr., and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, James Phillip, three brothers, George Mathews, Donny Ray Mathews, and Albert Wilson Mathews; and two sisters, Eula Gray Donica and Alice King.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Voss Chapel with Rev. Kelly Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Friends and family may call at Voss Chapel Saturday after 11:00 a.m. until time of service.

Memorial checks may be written to the American Diabetes Association.

My Mom was my best friend , its nearly 5 years and I am still wanting to reach for the phone to call her. Very few Saturdays would pass that we didn't go to breakfast or meet for coffee. She was a woman of radical faith , and had a heart for the under dog.. she taught her children to be compassionate to others. and to trust the Lord. I miss her terribly but I know she is walking the streets of gold and I cant wait to see her praying one more time ..

I am truly sadden to hear of Myrtle's passing. She was an amazing woman who loved everyone. She would give her last dime to someone who needed it. I loved her dearly. She held a very special place in my heart. I send my live and prayers to her family in their time of sorrow. She is home now sitting with God.
