Mrs. Peggy Keilman Hobson, 75, of Fishers, formerly of Seymour, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014. She was the youngest daughter of Jesse Keilman and Marjorie Keilman.
Peggy was born in Louisville, Kentucky and raised in New Albany, Indiana. As a child, she was very active and excelled in sports. The youngest of five brothers and sisters, she was always one of the first picked to play on the neighborhood teams. She graduated from New Albany High School in 1956 and worked for several years in the office of a large insurance company.
She met her future husband, Sandy at a country club dance in Louisville where as his opening line he asked her group if anyone was a Republican. Peggy was the only one and a fifty-year romance was begun.
She married Harold (Sandy) Hobson, Jr. on June 8, 1963 at the First Presbyterian Church in New Albany, Indiana. They then moved to Seymour, Indiana where Sandy worked in his family business, Seymour Manufacturing Company.
Peggy retired from her job but continued to work as a mother and volunteer in the community. She was a frequent volunteer for Governor Ed Whitcomb and received the Council of the Sagamores of the Wabash from Governor Whitcomb on March 17, 1970 for her service. Peggy was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
She was a long time volunteer at the Boys Club of Seymour and received an appreciation award for her service from 1964 to 1979.
In her later years she was the President of the Seymour High School Football Parents Club and was a member of the Fellows Society of Ball State University for service to the university.
She was an inspiring mother to her two surviving children, Stuart and Stephen. She always encouraged her sons to excel in every endeavor. She instilled in her sons an active work ethic and a strong sense of morality.
At Sandy’s retirement she and Sandy moved to Fishers, Indiana to be close to her children and grandchildren.
Peggy was an avid football and Colts fan and a 30 year Colts season ticket holder. She loved sports in general and in her younger years played racket ball. She looked forward every year to the family ski trip in Michigan.
Peggy loved to travel and she traveled on several occasions with Sandy and the kids to Europe, the Caribbean, and other destinations. Her favorite destinations were Lake Cumberland in Kentucky where she would spend time with her family and siblings and Hessel, Michigan where she and Sandy owned a lake house. Her last vacation was last spring when she and Sandy, her sons, daughter in law, and grandkids spent a week at a beach house in Florida for her and Sandy’s fiftieth wedding anniversary.
A lifelong Christian, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, and Methodist churches of Seymour, before joining the Roman Catholic Church. At her death she was a member of the Holy Spirit Geist Catholic Church in Fishers, Indiana.
She is preceded in death by her husband Sandy Hobson, two infant children, David Birge Hobson and Rita Anne Hobson, and by her parents and two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her children Stuart Hobson (Angela) and Stephen Hobson; and her six grandchildren, David Birge Hobson (17), Alexander Lopez Hobson (14), Ian Keilman Hobson (11), Evan Gatchell Hobson (11), Lauren Olivia Hobson (9), and Emeilia Gertrude Hobson (2) and a brother, Kenny Keilman.
