Philip R. Coomer, 83 of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Friday, March 25, 2016, at Lutheran Community Home.
He was born September 16, 1932, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, the son of the late Joesph and Cerilda (Bryant) Coomer.
He married Hazel Eversole on November 18, 1961, in Scott County, Indiana, and she survives.
Philip served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked at Arvins for 20 years and retired from Cummins Engine Company. He had a handyman business for a while after he retired. He was a member of the Seymour V.F.W., Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, children, Steven (Charlotte) Coomer and Lisa (Mark) Green; grandchildren, Zachariah Green, Bonnie Green, Jacob Green, Ericka Coomer, and Melissa Coomer; great-grandchildren, Rylan Green, Arissa Green, and Jade Green; brothers, Thomas (Juanette) Coomer and Rufus (Linda) Coomer; sisters, Geraldine (Joseph) Conn, Ida Heath, Patricia Coomer, and Josie Gross.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Sonny Heath and Bradley Gross.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday March 29, 2016, at Voss Chapel. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Friends and family may gather at Voss Chapel from 11:00 am until time of service.
