Mr. Robert G. “Bob” Wertz, 85, of Seymour passed away Friday March 28, 2014 at 5:30 PM in the Seymour Crossing.
Bob was born June 5, 1928 in Flat Rock, Indiana; He was the son of the late Paul “Curly” and Madge (nee Robertson) Wertz. On July 26, 1958 in Shelbyville, he married Catherine Schoentrup, who survives in Seymour; she was the love of his life as well as his only true dance partner.
Survivors also include his son and daughter-in-law, David Gene and Julie Wertz; four grandchildren: David Paul Wertz, Meredith (Rusty) Wampler, Rachel (Dan) Jackson, and Rebecca (Joe) Xayaveth, and Four great-grandchildren: Daegan Wampler, Avery Wampler, Mila Xayaveth and Evelyn Jackson. Bob is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and RitaWertz of Edinburgh, Indiana.
Bob was a member of Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour.
Bob was a 1946 graduate of Flat Rock High School and an army veteran; where prior to discharge he served as librarian for Camp Atterbury.
Locally Bob, together with his wife Catherine, owned the first Pizza Shop in Seymour called: “A Ring, A Bring” many still called him “PM” short for “Pizza Man”. Bob was an agent with Commonwealth Insurance and was an accountant with Union Starch in Columbus, Indiana. Bob retired after 28 years with J.C. Penney Co.
Bob had a special green thumb for rose gardening; many sought his advice on the proper husbandry of roses.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour by the Reverend Father Dan Staublin with the assistance of Deacon Mike East; Burial will follow at Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock, Indiana with military honours conducted by the VFW Post 1925, Ame4rican Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Family and Friends may call from 4 to 8:00 PM Tuesday April 1, 2014 at the Voss Funeral Home; the Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 PM at the Voss Funeral Home.
Memorials may be written to Saint Ambrose Catholic Church or for Masses to be offered for Bob.
