Mr. Samuel “Irvin” Rumph, 96, of Seymour, passed away on January 3, 2015 at Lutheran Community Home, with his family by his side.
Irvin was a lifelong Jackson County resident. Born October 10, 1918, in the Pleasant Grove area of Jackson County, the son of the late Louis G. Rumph and Jennie Robertson Rumph.
Irvin served at Camp Atterbury as a Medic, in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Reddington Christian Church.
He was associated with Allis Chalmers Dealerships in both Bedford and Brownstown for many years. His last employment was with Cummins Engine Company, where he retired after 21 years of service. During his time at Cummins he had worked at both Columbus and Seymour Plants. He worked on a farm all his life with grain, livestock, and raising produce.
After retirement he and Leona enjoyed traveling, for over twenty years to Canada in the summer and Florida in the winter, where they enjoyed fishing and hosting visitors.
On April 12, 1941, he united in marriage to Leona Fish. This happy union of 69 years was blessed with four children, Larry (Linda) Rumph, Linda (Dennis) Rust, David J. Rumph who preceded him in death September 2014 and Jerry Rumph who preceded him in death in 1979; one grandson, Greg Rust; 13 granddaughters: Lariann Rumph, Karyn Fleetwood, Gina Bane, Kristin Rieckers, Nancy Waltz, Stacy Chasteen, Juvona Rumph, Kimberly Pagel, Mindy Bailey, Heather Beesley, Debora Herbert, Heidi Wheatley and Jessica Trueblood; 26 great-grandchildren; 1-great great granddaughter, 1 brother Louis “Junior” (Marilyn) Rumph and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife; 2 sons, Jerry Rumph and David Joe Rumph, 3 sisters Effie Verble, Ruby Lucas and Jane Mitchaner.
Funeral services will be held at Voss Funeral Service on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Bill Weaver officiating.
Visitation will be held at Voss Chapel on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM or on Tuesday after 9:30 AM until the time of service.
Graveside services will take place at Reddington Cemetery.
Memorials may be written in memory of Mr. Rumph to the Reddington Christian Church, Lutheran Community Home or Donors Choice.
