Way, way, way back a long time ago, at the old house near the church, there were these two large maple trees where the Alexander kids, and then grandkids, played, and dug deep into the sand that made up the background grit of Glenlawn.... Grandma and Grandpa had graciously allowed us to stay there ~ and learn about them, and all at once this guy, Uncle Marvin, rode up on his scooter, to see Sophie...... A happier Cushman scooter there never was..... A later trip saw Sophie marrying Marvin, and then other trips over the years, Sophie was almost always available to receive visitors. One day, visiting with several cousins, there was going to be a big rain storm so we all went over to Sophie's house and she spread out an enormous sheet or spread, over the furniture and everyone laughed, and played and it was great and we even ate lunch ~ forgot what it was, maybe tomato soup ~ a specialty of those halcyon times ~ then the storm hit. A great gust of freezing cold air hit the house ~ which had all its windows opened.... and even Sophie joined us with the spreads and pillows to try warming up. Sweet, and now ancient memories of life back in the days when Sophie and Marvin worried for their friends who'd been sent off to Korea for another war... I know they prayed for their safety ~ even visited the Christian Church with them from time to time ~ on Sunday trips. Now, all the Alexanders are gone. Let me report those names, one more time, like Grandma did ~ Robert, Naoma, Dorothy, Mary Luella, Jean, June, Christine, Sophie, Nancy, Ruth..... and with them all their spouses ~ if she got fired up ~ Amen

Steve, Laura, and Brad, Sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. I had great memories of growing up in the neighborhood, and your mom was like a second mom to us. I remember stopping by a few years ago when she was still at home. She was sitting on the front porch. We probably talked about 30-45 minutes.. she talked about the neighborhood and the people who lived there when we were growing up. She had pretty good memory. I was lucky to have a similar kind of conversation with Marvin when he would come into the Seymour Post Office ( Marv was getting/delivering mail for the Jay C store) about working at Jay’s Market. Marv told me, we had some fun times there, didn’t we? Yes, we did Sorry for your loss, and may God bless you and you family, Dennis Sutton
