Mr. Thomas E. “Tom” Otto, 81, of North Vernon formerly of Seymour, passed away October 17, 2014 in Clarksville, IN. Tom was the son of the late Kenneth and Ethel (Steinberger) Otto. He married Nancy Ruth Hall on June 23, 1956 in Jeffersonville, IN. He loved to take her dancing and listen to Jazz music.
Tom was a US Navy, Korean War Veteran. He worked and retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1984.
Tom was a member of the Seymour First Baptist Church, Eagles Arie #655, VFW Post 1925 and the Moose Lodge all of Seymour.
Tom loved to joke and sing and mess around with his grandchildren. He was a huge sports fan especially the Cincinnati Reds and IU basketball. He had numerous hobbies, fishing, hunting and playing softball until he was unable to. He then enjoyed going with his son to Gaiser Park and watching all the different teams play.
He will be greatly missed by his children; Abby Hatfield and Charles E. Otto, grandchildren; Jason (Tara) Hatfield, Cassandra (Joshua) Young and Matthew (Samantha) Hatfield, 6 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and several brothers and sister.
A service honoring Tom will be held at Voss Chapel on Thursday, 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Larry Tingle officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday after 11:00 a.m. at Voss Chapel until time of service.
Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, with full military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post #1925, American Legion Post# 89, DAV, Korean and Vietnam veterans all of Seymour.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Associating.
