Mrs. Wilma L. Benter, 87 of Brownstown, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Columbus Regional Hospital at 1:37 a.m.
She was born August 15, 1928, in rural Brownstown, Indiana, the daughter of the late Albert G. and Matilda “Tillie” (Hackman) Eggersman.
She married Harold A. Benter on August 10, 1947, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2006.
Wilma was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. She worked for Brownstown School Corporation in the cafeteria but dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda O’Haver and Sonya Spray; two grandsons, Tyson (Rachel) O’Haver and Blake (Megan) O’Haver; three great-grandchildren, Elaina, Stephanie and Bryndal; and two sisters, Dorothy Otte Simmons and Maxine Newcomb.
Besides her parents and husband of almost 60 years, she was preceded by her brother, Willard Eggersman, two sisters, Mildred Thiele and Geneva Hoene; and an infant brother.
Funeral service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, June 24, 2016, at 10:00 am with Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, Rev. Philip Bloch, Rev. James Rodriguez and Vicar Alex Hoffmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at the Brownstown Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather at Voss Chapel on Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm and at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday after 9:00 am until time of service.
